First Line Fridays

Happy Friday!  Can you believe that it is December 2nd, and Christmas is just around the corner?!  I love this time of year though.  From Christmas movies to Christmas carols, it's such a beautiful and magical time.  It's the time to step back and slow down in order to consider all your blessings and all that the Lord has done for you.  Happy Christmas!

Without further ado, here is another first line from a brilliant detective novel I have been reading.  Please be sure to check out the book lines from these other amazing bloggers too:

Sydney from Singing Librarian
Rachel from Bookworm Mama
Andi from Radiant Light

Today I am going to post a line from:

Bad Day for a Bombshell
by Cindy Vincent

And the first line is...

December 5th, 1941

"Two days before waves of Imperial Japanese Navy planes blasted our warships into fireballs at Pearl Harbor, my mother and I were balancing hatboxes and shopping bags in the back of a taxicab while it raced through downtown Dallas, the fashion center of the Southwest."

Happy reading and have a fabulous Friday!

  1. I just finished Shelter From The Storm by Kristen Ethridge: "Ten years ago, Becca Collins caught a bus to Port Provident, Texas because it was as far south as she could get from Wisconsin without falling into the water."

  2. I just got a delightful surprise in the mail yesterday so I’m sharing the first line of Chapter 7 from Love Everlasting by Julie Lessman…

“But I d-don’t want to see the n-nurse; I want to r-ride a h-horsey.” Little six-year-old Beth Erin … clung to Shannon’s neck, voice quivering with disappointment as they entered the reception are of the Camp Hope plantation house.

    Squeeeee!!!!

  4. Hi Heather,
My first line comes from There Will Be Stars by Billy Coffey, and I am giving away a copy this week.

Sometimes, if he was not so drunk or the twins so loud, Bobby Barnes would consider how those rides to the mountain had become an echo of his life.

    1. Hi Andi,

Interesting line...it sounds like those trips through the mountains were becoming quite repetitive and tedious, yet would become reflective moments for him one day--an example of the years going by too quickly.

    1. I love reading historical pieces of literature, and this one sounds very interesting. I read a book a few months ago that highlighted Napoleon's military actions--the characters of the book were looking at his positions from the other side of the war though and also from hundreds of miles away.

  7. AHHHHH CHRISTMAS!!!!!! "The significance of the location was unknown to those present that murky day in 1962 when four lads stood in front of a huge tea warehouse by Liverpool's dock road, having photos taken to publicize their first record." Tune In - The Beatles: All These Years by Mark Lewisohn
