First Line Fridays

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  The Cottage by Coniston
by Deborah M. Hathaway

And the first line is...

Bath, August 1816

"This could not be happening.  Not again.  There was no possible way that Miss Amy Paxton could be rejected for the second time in under a year."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to
Hoarding Books to see who else is participating!

  1. My first line for July 2 is from The Chase by Lisa Harris:
Madison James burned through the final sixty seconds of her workout on the stationary bike, then released a slow breath.

  2. Sounds interesting! I have not read anything from this author before.
My first line is “No sooner did the last notes of the closing hymn, “Precious Name,” fade after the Sunday service than Emma Draycott allowed Stephen to pull her behind the Methodist church building.” It’s from The Scarlet Pen by Jennifer Uhlarik.
