First Line Fridays

Happy Friday everyone!  How is your week going?  Mine started out lovely--check out my author interview on The Engrafted Word--and then it ended with getting a cold.  I know the weather is to blame.  One day it is 30 degrees, and the next it is 60 degrees.  These crazy temperatures continue to flip-flop too--no wonder people keep getting sick.  I hope you are well where you are though, and if not, have a large cup of tea and curl up with a good book.  Happy reading!

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  Westward Hearts
by Melody Carlson

And the first line is...

December 1856

"Elizabeth Martin sat up and blinked in the pitchy darkness.  What had disturbed her dreamless slumber?"

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

Today on my blog I shared the first line from American Omens by Travis Thrasher but it's also my current read so I'll share the first line from my current chapter (8) here: "'I believe.' Dowland said with all the conviction and soul he could muster." Hope you have a wonderful weekend with plenty of quality reading time! :)

  5. Happy Friday! I’m sharing the first line from Death in the Stocks by Georgette Heyer on my blog today. Here’s the second line:

“No lamp shone in the window but a full moon sailed in a sky the colour of sapphires, and lit the village with a pale light, as cold as the sheen on steel.”

  6. Sorry to hear about your cold. There is nothing cold about my life at the moment, either weather-wise or health-wise!

I'm featuring "The Seamstress" by Allison Pittman on my blog, but I've just started reading "Atoning for Ashes" by Kaitlin Covel, so I'll share that first line here:

    Josie had always detested black.

    Have a great weekend!
