Since I am reading A Return of Devotion by Kristi Ann Hunter, I thought I would share the opening line from the first book in the series. I love reading all books, but I especially enjoy reading books when they are part of a series. It is always nice to learn more about various characters in new books--instead of the tale ending in book one. Be watching for my review of A Return to Devotion, which I will post next week!
Also, I am so excited to celebrate the four year anniversary of Encouraging Words from the Tea Queen! Make sure you enter the book giveaway! Happy reading friends!
Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!
Today I am going to post a line from:
A Search for Refuge
by Kristi Ann Hunter
And the first line is...
Marlborough, England
1804
"Margaretta had used the word desperate many times in her life, but she'd never truly known the meaning until she stood in the open door of a mail coach, clutching an eight-month-old letter and praying that someone in this minuscule market town would know where the writer had gone when she moved on."
Happy reading and happy Friday!
Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating!
Happy Friday! My first line is from Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe by Carla Laureano:
ReplyDelete"Once upon a time, Melody Johansson had believed in happily ever afters."
So sad! Oh to be young again and believe in the impossible! Of course, we can remember this quote by C.S. Lewis, “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” :) Happy reading Becky!
DeleteI haven't read any of Kristi Ann Hunter's books, but I've heard alot about them lately! My first line is from The White City by Grace Hitchcock:
ReplyDelete"Winnifred Wylde concentrated on his forehead, nodding, trying to respond appropriately, but it was so difficult with his nose hair escaping and retreating into his left nostril with every breath."

Have a great weekend!
I recommend Hunter's book--this one is a novella, so it's a nice quick read. :) Happy reading Jolene!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteMY first lines come from Criminally Cocoa by Amanda Flower.
“Cut! Cut!” the director Raymond Reynolds yelled. He was a tall, loose-jointed man, who braided his hair into a ponytail at the back of his head. Before meeting him, I didn’t think I had ever seen a man with a braid before, and I couldn’t stop staring at it. In my community only little girls braided their hair, never grown women and certainly never menfolk.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!💜
Too funny--happy reading Susan!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Castle on the Rise by Kristy Cambron. It is such a great story. I highly recommend it. Right now I am in the middle of chapter 23, so I will share a line from there.
"Most of the south side was still cloaked in darkness from the gasworks disaster."
Hope you have a relaxing weekend. Happy reading! 🙂💚📚
Thanks Nicole! Happy reading!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteA Search for Refuge sounds really good :)
I'm sharing the first line from Liz Johnson's On Love's Gentle Shore: "She'd thought it was safe to come back to the island."
I've read a few books from this series, but I need to finish it. :) Check out my review of Christmas at the Red Door Inn (https://theengraftedword.net/christmas-at-the-red-door-inn-my-review/). Happy reading Kirby!

ReplyDeleteI'm sharing from the latest Elizabeth Camden novel on my blog, but I've just picked up After the Rain by Brandy Bruce. Here's the first line:

Hunter's book A Return of Devotion is great--review coming soon! Happy reading Iola!
DeleteHappy Friday! I'm sharing from The Liberty Bride by MaryLu Tyndall on my blog today. Here is the first line from Chapter 7:
ReplyDelete"The minute Lieutenant Dimsmore offered Emeline his arm as they emerged from the companionway after dinner, she regretted accepting his invitation."
Oh my goodness! This is a brilliant opening line. :) Happy reading Yvette!
DeleteThis week on my blog I shared the first line from Of Fire and Lions by Mesu Andrews (releases 3/5). I'm currently reading it so I'll share the first line from my current chapter (22) here: "I had experienced the atrocities of war but never witnessed a battle like the one my son fought for his life during the week of his illness." This book is soooo good I highly recommend it! Hope you have a great weekend with quality reading time! :)
