First Line Fridays

I saw this book advertised the other day, so of course, I wanted to mention it for FLF this week.  :)  I know Hallmark has published books before, but I think they are typically based on the movies?  Yet the last couple of Hallmark books I have seen appear to be stand alone stories, which are not connected to the films.  I could be wrong about this though--let me know if you can unravel this mystery.  :)  Happy reading!

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  The Christmas Company
by Alys Murray

And the first line is...

December 23

"Some may have called Kate Buckner biased, but she believed no one on planet Earth did Christmas better than the small town of Miller's Point, Texas."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. Ooh, I'm adding this to my TBR for this upcoming Christmas season. :D

I'm sharing about "A Lady of a Thousand Treasures" by Sandra Byrd over at my blog, but I'm almost finished reading, "The Bullying Breakthrough" by Jonathan McKee. So my first line will come from there.

    It's 6:37 a.m., and I haven't slept for hours.
This has been an emotional project for me, probably the toughest I've ever tackled. Not because the research has been any more burdensome or the topic more daunting, but because never have I heard so much anguish and hurt.

Happy Friday! Hope you have a wonderful reading filled with lots of good books to enjoy. :D

  2. Happy Friday! This week on my blog I'm featuring Everything She Didn't Say by Jane Kirkpatrick but it's also the book I'm currently reading so I'll share the first line from my current chapter (13) here: "Doing what I haven't ever done before has become a kind of purpose for me." Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of quality reading time!

  3. My first line is from Anna’s Tower by Pegg Thomas. It is from the Barbour Collection, Great Lakes Lighthouse Brides.
    Thunder Bay Island, Lake Huron
    October 4, 1883
The wail of a ship’s whistle jerked Anna Wilson from sleep despite the cotton wadding she’d shoved in her ears before bed.

  4. I enjoy reading stories based in Texas.

This week I shared from The Storm-Tossed Family (Russell Moore)
So here I'll share from my next book Basics for Believers (D.A. Carson)

`The five chapters of this book provide an introduction to a letter the apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian Christians almost two thousand years ago.`

  6. Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I'm sharing the first line from An Hour Unspent by Roseanna White. Currently, I'm reading The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear. This book is SO good, I'm absolutely loving it. I'm on chapter 28, so I'll share a line from there:

"The women came for her very shortly after, and while leading her off, they shooed Crying Bird away."

Hope you have an amazing weekend filled with great reading time! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ“š

  7. Happy Friday! I'm sharing from my current read, Temptation Rag by Elizabeth Hutchison Bernard. Here is a line from the top of page 9:

"She thought she would never tire of watching him at the piano, his fingers caressing the keys, a look of such tenderness on his face as if he would gladly die for each and every note."

  8. That cover is gorgeous - straight out of a Thomas Kincaid painting.

I'm featuring Pathway to Peace by Elizabeth Maddrey on my blog, and I've just picked up That's When I Knew by Laurie Tomlinson. Here's the first line:

"Bless her heart. Chelsea Scott's sales director had no idea what she was getting them into."

I'm guessing this is that Southern meaning of "bless her heart" which means anything but!

    1. I completely agree regarding the cover Iola! And you are correct about the Southern meaning of bless her heart--I can verify that since I am a Southerner. :) Happy reading!
