First Line Fridays

At present, I have been scanning my bookshelves, because there are several books I purchased years ago that I still need to read.  The book I'm highlighting this week falls into that category.  Do you ever "lose" a book by forgetting to read it?  Of course, this is incredibly easy to do--especially, when you own hundreds of books.  :)

How often do you go back and read from you bookcases?  Have you discovered any hidden treasures that you forgot about?  Please share your findings in the comments below.  :)

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  The Pattern Artist
by Nancy Moser

And the first line is...

1911 / New York City

"'Annie Wood! I demand you wipe that ridiculous smile off your face.  Immediately.'"

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. I liked this book. Nancy Moser is a favorite author of mine. My blog is featuring An Irishwoman's Tale by Patti Lacy. But here I will share from a book on my Spring TBR list, Hurricane Season by Lauren K. Denton. "She usually stayed in bed until at least six, but this morning she was restless, like animals get when the barometric pressure drops before a storm."

  2. So many books (and authors) I have yet to read!

Here's the first line from my current read:

Brandi's head throbbed. The hateful words still sizzled in her ears as the front door brushed open. (Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald)

    Happy Friday!

  4. I am terrible at that! It's like I enjoy buying the books almost more than I want to read them. Which, really is not true at all. But I love collecting and collecting and collecting.

    1. I couldn't agree more Sarah--I do exactly the same thing. I buy more books before I read the ones I already own...lol. But I love buying books, so I know the cycle will continue. :) Happy Friday!

  5. That's a great first line - every time I see this book I want to read it...
Though I’m sharing a book with an Irish hero, The Promise of Breeze Hill by Pam Hillman, on my blog today, here’s the first line of an audiobook I’ve borrowed from the library on a friend’s recommendation, The Bookshop on the Corner (or, in the UK, The Little Shop of Happily Ever After) by Jenny Colgan:

“The problem with good things that happen is that very often they disguise themselves as awful things.”

    Happy Friday!

Today at my blog, I am sharing the first lines from Jennifer Delamere's latest novel, The Heart's Appeal. It's such a great book!

Here I will share the first lines from my next-up book, Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald. This is my first read of this author's works, but I am very excited!!!

    "July
Brandi's head throbbed. The hateful words still sizzled in her ears as the front door brushed open. Ethan stepped over the threshold."

  7. Oh my bookshelves are not a topic I like to visit often... the tbr is both a source of comfort and shame!

Ty Remington blamed the homemade orange marmalade cake for why he found himself huddled under an overhang off some faraway path in Glacier National Park, shivering, praying he might live through the night.

Here, I'll share the first line of the chapter I'm currently on. "We've spent the night at the ski resort catching up and sharing belated Christmas presents." Have a great weekend!

  9. A lovely cover, and an intriguing first line!

I'm sharing the first line from A Season to Dance by Patricia Beal on my blog today, but I'll share here from the book I'm currently reading: A Chance at Forever by Melissa Jagears:

    "I wish you luck, George."
    "It's Aaron now. Don't forget."

    Have a great weekend!

  10. I really enjoyed the Pattern Artist - especially the real historical events woven through. I keep all of my unread books on the same shelf and look at them often so I don't tend to forget about any of them. They make me happy. :) It can take a couple of years to get to them, though, since new ones and library books often get in the way.
