I know Halloween is over, but since it did occur this week, I really wanted to go ahead and showcase this book. :) I actually purchased this book last year, yet I have not had a moment to read it. However, I am determined to finish the story this month. I hope you all had great days this first week of November and did not eat too much leftover trick-or-treat candy. :) Happy reading!
Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!
Today I am going to post a line from:
Death of a Pumpkin Carver
by Lee Hollis
Today I am going to post a line from:
Death of a Pumpkin Carver
by Lee Hollis
And the first line is...
"Halloween was Hayley Powell's favorite day of the year, but it was also incredibly dangerous."
Happy Friday and happy reading!
Let me know your first line in the comments
& then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is
participating!
I'm not a huge fan of Halloween or it's books. I like to avoid creepy scary kind of things. :-)
ReplyDeleteFor my first line, I’m featuring Masquerade by Janette Rallison which I re-read this week.
“Opportunity didn’t knock for Slade Jacobson – it rang his cell phone at 10:34 pm while he was putting his daughter to bed for the third time.”
A re-read book means it's always a good book. :) Happy Wednesday Phyllis!
DeleteI should read more cozy mysteries! The few I have read were cute and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThe first line of the book I’m currently reading is:
England, December 23, 1813
Holly Gray’s courage faded with every step she took deeper inside the castle conservatory where, according to Grandfather’s stories, a ghost resided.
Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch
You should read more cozy mysteries! :) I recommend Laura Childs and Ellery Adams. Happy Wednesday Suzie!
DeleteI need to read more cozies!!
ReplyDeleteMy first line is from Holly and Ivy by Fern Michaels:
“You’re too young to be hanging around with a bunch of old ladies. You need to be with girls your own age,” Daniel Greenwood explained to his eleven-year-old daughter, Holly.
Have a great weekend!
I love the title of this book! Is it a Christmas book? Happy Wednesday Susan!
DeleteOver on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Sarah Monzon’s latest book just released this week; “The Esther Paradigm”. I’m just over half-way through the book, and I’m loving the story. But you’ll have to go over there to read the first line for The Esther Paradigm. Here I’ll share with you the first line from an older favorite.
ReplyDeleteBedford, England — May 1659
“The babe’s crying would rip her heart to shreds if she had to listen to it one more minute.” — The Preacher’s Bride by Jody Hedlund
Intriguing first line--I will have to check this book out. I love books that are set in England, and I am curious to see why this one is set in the 17th century. Happy Wednesday Trisha!
DeleteMy first line is "Sometimes leading also means following. Sometimes being first means you actually arrive second." Service Tales by Ace Collins
ReplyDeleteBrilliant first line! I had to chuckle over this statement. Happy Wednesday Tima!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteMy first line is from Pepper Basham’s Charming the Troublemaker:
“Loser ex-husbands and freezing January afternoons left a nasty chill.”
The irony of this first line...too funny. Happy Wednesday Becky!
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of Halloween or anything scary but this looks like a fun cozy mystery that I'd like. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm featuring The Princess Bride on my blog, but I'm currently reading Meg Mitchell & the Secret of the Journals by Kimberly McNeil so I'll share that here.
Prologue
If I say I go to the White Raven for the food, I'd be lying, and I'm a journalist, which means I don't lie.
Happy Friday!
I love the film Princess Bride, so I will have to pick up a copy of the book. Happy Wednesday Rebecca!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteHis quarry was late. Very late. – An Eye For An Eye by Irene Hannon
Oh my! What happens next? Happy Wednesday Caryl!
DeleteInteresting cover!
ReplyDeleteMy first line on the blog today is from a favorite: Born of Persuasion by Jessica Dotta. (You could say it fits in with the season, too, because of its Gothic/mysteries [though never creepy] feel).
Here are the first two lines of my current read, Lady Jayne Disappears by Joanna Davidson Politano: "Well, Miss Harcourt. Are you, or are you not, Nathaniel Droll?"
I love Gothic novels...Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights. :) And I cannot wait to read Lady Jayne Disappears...it is next on my to-read list. Happy Wednesday Courtney!
DeleteIt's a perfect week to share this quote. Love it, Heather. :) The title of this book is so mysterious! It leaves me wanting to know more.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I know you cannot judge a book by its cover, but sometimes that is why I buy a book. :) Happy Wednesday Savanna!
DeleteI'm not a Halloween person myself, but it's not as much of a thing in Australia anyway. People tend to have dress up parties rather than going trick or treating and carving pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteI’m featuring the first line from Pepper Basham’s ‘Charming the Troublemaker’ on my blog, but I’m going to leave you with the first line of a book I’ll be reviewing tomorrow, ‘The Bachelor Missions’ by Jes Drew:
“One bulky figure stands alone in the rain, keeping his head down–his identity obscured by a hat and large raincoat.”
Another intriguing first line--who is this person? This definitely sounds like an interesting read. Happy Wednesday Katie!
DeleteHalloween isn't much of a thing in New Zealand either, but now I'm curious. What's so dangerous about it? Great first line!
ReplyDeleteI'm sharing from Blue Ridge Sunrise by Denise Hunter on my blog today, and I'm currently reading the Regency Brides collection. Here's the first line to the second novella in the book, Masquerade Melody by Angela Bell:
Whoever coined the phrase to "bite one's tongue" was sorely mistaken in believing that silence inflicted mere physical harm.
What a reflective first line! Definitely something to ponder--I would love to know more about this character's thinking and journey throughout this novel. :) Happy Wednesday Iola!
DeleteFunny, because on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Giles said Halloween was always quiet. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Happy Wednesday Sarah!
