First Line Fridays

This week I thought I would share a different sort of book.  As I was "window shopping" on Amazon, I came across this text, and I think it sounds simply delightful!  It'a a recipe book, but not just any recipe book--a tea book that features Jane Austen--my two very favorite things!  :)  Raise your hand if you have either hosted a tea party or gone to one--yes, I can raise my hand to both.  In fact, I even planned a tea party event for my best friend's bridal shower.  It was so much fun!  So please, have a cup of tea for me this afternoon--happy reading!

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  Tea with Jane Austen
by Kim Wilson

And the first line is...

Breakfast with the Austens

"Jane Austen was in charge of making her family's breakfast every morning, including the most important part of breakfast: the tea."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. I'm not even a tea drinker! But I'd still go a long to a tea party if I was invited, just for the chat :-)

I'm featuring the first line from 'The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond' by Jaime Jo Wright over on my blog, but right now I'm going to share the first line from the book I just started, A Love Restored by Kelly Goshorn:

    'Land sakes it was hot.'

    1. Me too! One of my favorite quotes is by C.S. Lewis: “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” Happy reading Caryl!

  3. My first line is from No Place to Hide by Lisa Harris:

    Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Ellie Webb made her way down the steep incline of the favela, where hundreds of homes sat packed together in a sprawling maze of steep streets and unpaved narrow alleys.

This one is a page turner!

  4. That sounds fascinating, Heather! I'm on a "tea kick" right now because I just finished reading A.M. Heath's If Only It Were Yesterday (coming out this fall!), and the main character *loves* her tea - all kinds! :-) I usually stick to herbal tea (esp. peppermint), but that book made me curious about some of the other kinds, too! :-)

On my blog, I'm featuring Only the River Runs Free, but I'll share the first line of another book on my TBR list here, Elizabeth Musser's Searching for Eternity: "I am watching the evening news, alone in my house, hungry and tired from the day's work, eating a piece of leftover pizza and wishing it were blanquette de veau. The story comes near the end of the NBC program."

    Have a blessed weekend! :-)

Over on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from Rachel Fordham's debut book "The Hope of Azure Springs." I hope you get the chance to check it out! Here I'll share the first line from Chapter Five.
"Em stood on the front porch, quietly looking heavenward. The sun had yet to rise."

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Happy Friday!😊 Nothing like window shopping on Amazon!😊

My FLF comes from a book I will be reading shortly, The Hope Jar by Wanda Brunstetter....

Tears streamed down Sara Murray’s face as she sat on the living-room floor, going through another box of her mother’s things. Mama had passed away two weeks ago after a short three-month battle with colon cancer.

Have a great weekend, happy reading, and stay cool!😊💖

  7. Oh man, I NEED this book. This is perfect with two of my favorite things mixed together. :D

I'm sharing about "The Hawaiian Discovery" by Wanda E. Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter over on my blog today. Since I'm currently reading a YA Christian fantasy novel called "Choice of the Mighty" by Kenyon T. Henry, I'll share my first line from there.

"He walked alone down the sidewalk."

Happy reading and have a wonderful weekend!

  12. I'm a rebel: I prefer coffee with breakfast, then switch to tea. I guess that means I'm not as British as I like to think ... or that coffee now rules the world.

I'm sharing from Five Days in Skye by Carla Laureano on my blog today. But I'm reading Bookishly Ever After by Sarah Monzon, the final novella in the Timeless Love collection I featured a couple of weeks ago. It's ticking all the boxes for me—contemporary romance, first person point of view, a bookish heroine, and a good friend who might become more ... Anyway, here's the first line:

The hunter had become the hunted. Poetic? Not really.

    1. Actually no--I remember when I was in England, people drank coffee for breakfast and then drank tea the rest of the day. So I would say you are perfectly fine to remain British. :) Happy reading Iola!

  13. I'm weird I don't like tea but I don't like coffee either. I don't even like the smell of it but I'd deal with it for a chance to sit down with Jane Austen! lol
The book I'm sharing on my blog is Dead Drift by Dani Pettrey but here I'll share the book I'm currently reading The Hope of Azure Springs by Rachel Fordham: "'She dead?' Em heard a man's voice from somewhere above her." Hope you have a great weekend!
