First Line Fridays

I confess--the reason I ordered this book is because the Eiffel Tower was on the front cover.  :)  When I was in college, I had the privilege of visiting the Eiffel Tower on a study abroad trip, and I have to tell you, the Eiffel Tower was more beautiful and glamorous than I was expecting.  As with most tourist spots, pictures do not do it justice.  It was actually taller than I thought it would be, and thankfully, my friend encouraged me to venture to the second level, which is where we enjoyed crepes and cafe ole.  :)  It was a wonderful adventure I will always cherish.  What have been some of your favorite travel moments?

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  Glamorous Illusions
by Lisa T. Bergren

And the first line is...

Montana, 1913

~Cora~

"As the locomotive reached the train station, I strained so hard to see my folks that my eyes hurt."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. What does the Eiffel Tower have to do with Montana? Very curious. :) I love the cover.

My favorite place of travel was probably Grindelwald in Switzerland. The mountains are beyond description. They make you feel minuscule, and impress upon a person how very small we are when compared to Almighty God. How amazing and wonderful that He should not only take notice of us, but love us to the point of suffering and dying for our sake. It's probably the most amazing place on earth for me.

Today on my blog I am sharing a book I read a long time ago by Mary Connealy that I greatly enjoyed, Petticoat Ranch. Here I will share the first line from the book I am currently reading/studying, "Saving Truth" by Abdu Murray. "You've been at an intersection before, waiting for the red light to change, and had that uneasy feeling: Is the bus next to me moving forward or am I in reverse?" This book is about finding meaning and clarity in a post-truth world. I highly recommend this author. Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

    1. I love the detail of your experience regarding visiting Switzerland. There are several places I have visited in the past--Grand Canyon, York, England--that have made me feel the exact same way. :) Happy Wednesday friend!

  2. Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from To Kill a Mockingbird -- one of my most favorite books ever written. So here I will share from the book I am currently reading, The Theory of Happily Ever After by Kristin Billerbeck. I am just beginning chapter 14, so I will share the first line from there.

"Try as I might, I can't release Sam's kiss from my memory."

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I have never read To Kill a Mockingbird, and I believe there is a movie/adaptation from the 1960's with Gregory Peck--if you enjoy literary films. :) Happy Wednesday Nicole!

  3. Happy Friday!😊

My FLF comes from a book I will be reading soon, My Heart Belongs in Niagra Falls New York by Amanda Barratt.

As the coachman loaded her trunk onto the carriage, nausea churned in Adele’s stomach.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😀

  6. I downloaded Glamorous Illusions on my Kindle when it first released, but never got a chance to read it. The opening line makes me want to bump it up my TBR list. This week, I'm featuring The Doctor's Lady by Jody Hedlund as my FLF on Little Miss Bookworm Reviews. Have a nice weekend :)

The book I'm sharing on my blog this week is Unblemished by Sara Ella but it's also the book I'm currently reading so I'll share the first line from chapter 4 here: "The expression on El's face before the wall closed was all the proof I required." Hope you have a happy Memorial Day weekend! :)

  8. I think it's perfectly reasonable to download a book because the cover has the Eiffel Tower!

I've been to a lot of amazing places, and I'm hoping to revisit one of my favourites this week: Hobbiton :)

My blog post today is sharing the first line from Solo Tu by Narelle Atkins. It's book #7 in the Tuscan Legacy series, and is set in Australia. I'm currently reading another beach book - Sanover Beach Memories by Emma St. Clair. Here's the first line:

"They had both been grounded for a week when Jenna's father found the initials she and Steve carved into the birch tree."

    Happy Memorial Day weekend!

  9. My favorite travel moment so far...that is a tough one! Seeing Stonehenge is easily one, the USS Arizona, and Holyrood Palace. And Windsor Castle. And Blarney Castle. The Anne Frank Haus (though not necessarily a favorite because of all the fun...more like a very humbling and deeply moving experience that everyone should be required to partake in. Seeing her real journal though...mind-blowing). Basically, Scotland, Ireland, England, Hawaii. There are far too many favorites, so I will just say, EVERYTHING!

    1. That makes perfect sense Sarah! And I'm so excited that you got to see Holyrood Palace! Me too! :) Wasn't it incredible to stand in the bedroom that belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots. The history is so incredible in the UK--it was amazing to walk where my favorite authors wrote and lived, and to visit all the places I've only read about in books. Happy Wednesday!
