First Line Fridays

I keep seeing the My Heart Belongs series, so I thought I would feature one of their books this week.  :)  There are several I would like to read, but the novel by Erica Vetsch is on my Kindle, so I will highlight that one right now.  Happily, I will be reading and reviewing My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls, New York, so make sure to visit my blog again soon in order to see my thoughts on this novel.  :)

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

My Heart Belongs in Fort Bliss, Texas
by Erica Vetsch

And the first line is...

Trans-Pecos Territory of West Texas, 1874

"Only the army would think a place like this worth defending.  Priscilla Hutchens clamped her teeth together to keep them from rattling right out of her head.  Grabbing the wagon bow, she sought to find an anchor as the converted military ambulance jounced up a slight rise."

Happy reading, happy Friday, and Happy New Year!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. Fort Bliss? Somehow I can't see an army fort in 1874 Texas as especially blissful ... so it sounds like a good read.

I'm sharing the first line from The View from Rainshadow Bay by Colleen Coble on my blog and I'm reading Missing Isaac, the brilliant debut from Valerie Fraser Luesse. Here's the first line:

A sleepy purple twilight wrapped around the farmhouse, its tall windows glowing with warmth from somewhere inside.

  2. I must get around to reading this one sometime. Every time someone features it I'm reminded again!

I'm featuring the first line from Susan May Warren's "Troubled Waters" on my blog today, but right now I'm deep into "A Moonbow Night" by Laura Frantz:

"What cannot be cured must be endured."

    Have a great weekend :-)

  3. Happy Friday!

My First Line Friday comes from a book I’m reading now, Any Day Now by Robyn Carr.

So, this is what a new life looks like. Sierra Jones opened her eyes on a sunny Colorado morning to that thought.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

  4. Oh I need to read this! I believe I've actually been to Fort Bliss! I was born in El Paso, but I believe Fort Bliss was where my dad was stationed at the time.

I'm sharing about Until We Find Home by Cathy Gohlke on the blog today, but since it's the closest book to me since it's what I'm currently reading, I'll share it here as well.

    May 1940

Lightning crackled, splitting the night sky over Paris, illuminating letters painted on the bookstore window across the street: La Maison de Amis Livres. Driving rain pounded the loose shutters of Shakespeare and Company, making them rattle so that Claire Stewart dropped the heavy blackout curtain into place.

    Happy Friday!

    1. That's so cool! I'm happy to know that Fort Bliss does indeed exist. :) Fun fact about me, I've actually been to Shakespeare and Company in Paris, France. :) It's the only English bookstore in France. Happy Saturday Rebecca!

  5. I've read several books in the My Heart Belongs... Series. But I've not yet had the pleasure of reading this one. It's on my TBR!
Over on my blog this week, I'm featuring The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz (another amazing book!). My next book on the TBR stack just happens to be the feature book on Hoarding Books, so I won't share an extra line in the comments this week. Have a wonderful weekend & keep warm!

  7. That's on my must read list! Happy Friday! My first line(s) is from the Prologue in Susan May Warren's new book Troubled Waters, which I finished last night:

"Oh, this was a bad idea. Epically, abysmally, horrendously bad."

  8. The cover of your book is gorgeous, and I love the first lines you shared. I'm checking this book out immediately! 😊

Today, I'm hosting Oath of Honor on my site. I just started it, so I'm only at chapter 3. So, here I will share the first couple of lines from that chapter.

"'Kevin!' But with the doors shut and the windows up, he wouldn't hear her whispered shout. She should have lied and said the place was covered in cameras."

    1. Thanks Nicole! Those are great opening chapter lines--is this book more in the crime genre rather than the mystery genre? I'm reading Fatal Frost right now, which is definitely more in the crime genre. Happy Saturday!

Chapter 5 "What an evening! Eisley pried off her shoes and rubbed her sore heels, blinking her focus on the bedside clock, 2:07am. Crazy end to a crazier day."
