Since Halloween is just around the corner, I thought I would highlight one of the classic pumpkin stories. :) I remember waiting all year to see this cartoon come on TV when I was a kid. I believe Garfield also had a pumpkin special that came on after Snoopy. Does anyone remember that? What holiday cartoons or books did you enjoy when you were younger? Happy reading and happy Halloween!

by Charles Schulz
Today I am going to post a line from:
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
by Charles Schulz
And the first line is...
"Every fall, the leaves on the trees turn brown and fall off the branches. Pumpkins grow big and plump in their patches. The air grows cooler, and people start to think about their Halloween costumes. And every fall, Linus writes a very important letter."
Happy Friday and happy reading!
Let me know your first line in the comments
& then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is

What a great idea for a first line! And much more appropriate to the season than mine. :) I always enjoyed Snoopy and Garfield as a kid, too.
ReplyDeleteI’m sharing the first line from Christmas at Harrington’s by Melody Carlson on my blog today. In keeping with my Christmas theme, I’ll share the first line from another Christmas book inching its way up my TBR list: A Husband for Holly by Marion Uechermann. “OH NO. Hurry, Heather, before she spots us.”
I love Christmas books! What books in this genre do you recommend? Happy Friday!
DeleteAn appropriate choice for this week! It's finally starting to feel like fall here in TN with some cool weather and the leaves changing color.
ReplyDeleteI shared a line from Seeking Mansfield by Kate Watson on my blog today but the first line of what I'm reading is...
Is Daddy down there? (from Christmas at Cade Ranch by Karen Rock).
It's finally starting to feel like fall here too. I actually had to wear a jacket yesterday! :) Happy Friday!
DeleteOh, I've always loved this every year and so perfect for the season! I was just talking to my mom how it's tradition to watch this and how I really wanted to watch it before October ended. Haha. Great first line!
ReplyDeleteI’m featuring Hometown Girl by Courtney Walsh on my blog, but I’m currently reading a non-fiction book called She’s Got The Wrong Guy: Why Smart Women Settle by Deepak Reju so I’ll use that today.
Part 1:
From Problems to Faith
When it comes to dating and marriage, what problems do you face as a single woman?
Happy Friday!!
I know! I'm so happy that I have the Snoopy films on DVD now, so I can watch them any time of the year. :) Happy Friday!
DeleteAww yay! That's awesome! I don't have cable so I'm going to need to look to see if Netflix or Hulu has them so I can watch. :)
DeleteYes! I always look forward to watching the Peanuts on the Holiday specials! We ended up getting the DVD copies and my son has enjoyed watching them also.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Happy Friday!
DeleteOh my goodness I love this book! And all of them let’s face it. It just isn’t a holiday without reading and/or watching Charlie Brown and his friends. Thanks for putting a smile on my face :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! You're welcome Jessica. :) Happy Friday!
DeleteCute! :) Happy Friday! I'm featuring The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen on my blog. But I will share the first line of Jody Hedlund's Love Unexpected here. "The blast of a gunshot awoke Emma Chambers."
ReplyDeleteOh my! What happens next?! I'm listening to The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen on Audible. :) Happy Friday!
DeleteI love the Peanuts!!! Great choice this week!!!
ReplyDeleteToday, I am featuring My Heart Belongs in Castle Gate, Utah by Angie Dicken, but I am currently in the middle of reading Hamlet with my AP Lit seniors. We are in Act 3, so I will share the first line from Act 3, Scene 1:
Claudius: And can you by no drift of conference get from him why he puts on this confusion, grating so harshly all his days of quiet with turbulent and dangerous lunacy?
I love Shakespeare! :) Happy Monday!
DeleteI should hide my face to admit the first time I watched a Charlie Brown anything was last year. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sharing two first lines on my blog (because I'm featuring a dual-novella book), but for commenting, my first line comes from the book I'm currently reading: "Giver of Wonder" by Roseanna White.
"She would die today, one way or another."
Oh my goodness! Well, I'm so glad you finally watched the Peanuts gang. :) Happy Monday!
DeleteLove it. I do not remember the Garfield special, but I definitely remember Charlie Brown. Happy Friday, Heather!
ReplyDeleteI think the Garfield cartoon might have been for Thanksgiving and not Halloween--if I remember correctly. :) Happy Monday Sarah!
Deleteawww yay! This first line/book makes me smile! Yay for Linus!
ReplyDeleteMy current first line is from A MOTHER IN THE MAKING by Gabrielle Meyer: "John Orton stared at Anna's portrait, his grief nothing compared to his pulsing guilt."
I'm so glad Carrie! :) Happy Monday!
DeleteMy first line is from The Color of Redemption by Lynn Cornell:
ReplyDelete"An eerie foreboding had jolted me from my sleep this morning, vexing my spirit - the kind of vexing that made me want to cower under my covers and stay in bed."
Spooky--happy Monday Becky!
