This week's book comes from a Twitter recommendation--it said that fans of Downton Abbey would love this series of stories. So I am super excited to read this first book--I actually listened to the first bit on Audible, and it was wonderful. :) Can you recommend any other novels that would fall in line with the genre or time era of Downton Abbey?
I hope that each of you have had the lovely opportunity to watch Downton Abbey--I confess that I own all six seasons on DVD. If you haven't seen them yet, go watch them right away! In my opinion, the series of Downton Abbey is one of the best TV period dramas of all time. :) As always, please be sure to check out the book

Today I am going to post a line from:
Love of the Summerfields
by Nancy Moser
And the first line is...
Summerfield, England
Late July 1880
"'They're back!' Fidelia Hayward burst into the Summerfield Mercantile, one hand to her heaving chest, the other steadying her bonnet, which tipped precariously over her left ear."
Happy reading and Happy Friday!
I'll have to check this one out! I have the first line from Tamara Leigh's 'The Vexing' on my blog today, but I'm going to leave you with the first line from 'Still Falling' by Crystal Walton, releasing on 17th May:
ReplyDelete"On his way to their squad car, NYPD Officer Josh D'Angelo fanned away a sense of dread rising with the steam coming through the subway grates."
Happy Friday :-)
Oh goodness, what a first line! I would say that Josh needs to turn around and get help--always listen to that still small voice. :)
DeleteThat sounds like a book I would enjoy reading! On my blog today I'm sharing a line from Pepper Basham's book The Thorn Healer. I wanted to share something different in the comment, so I'm choosing a book that my son is currently reading. "As soon as she heard the first pop, pop, pop of the distant muskets, the young mother extinguished the morning fire and closed and barred the cabins shutter." Abandoned on the Wild Frontier (The Trailblazer books) by: Dave & Neta Jackson Bethany House, 1995
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by Pepper Basham yet, but I will have to add her to my to-read author list.
DeleteP.S. I share your blog post today on my Joy Of Reading Facebook page! I was going to tag you, but couldn't find you. Feel free to stop by if you like.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Yes, I am Facebookless...lol. But you can find me on Instagram and Twitter. :)
DeleteMy first line comes from The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White.
ReplyDeleteAUGUST 13, 1814
MOBILE POINT
She could set fire to the letter in her pocket and it would still be true.
I love the title of this book! And what a true statement--even when we wish things were different, they are what they are.

Interesting imagery but what a sad confession. Happy Saturday!
DeleteOn my blog today is the first line from Irene Hannon's Sea Rose Lane so I am going to leave the first line from Between the Reins by Liz Isaacson that is releasing on May 16th. "The barn door banged open as Gil, one of the male counselors, burst through it, "Owen, there's a fight we need your help with."
ReplyDeleteOh my! Great declaratory line--welcome to First Line Fridays Jane!
DeleteWe just got all 6 seasons of Downton Abbey from being a PBS sponsor. Haven't watched them yet. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Can't wait for you to watch them--let me know what you think :)
DeleteThe Lost Heiress by Roseanna White, Carrie Turansky's books, Not by Sight by Kate Breslin, Pepper Basham's Penned in Time series...Those are the first ones that come to mind.
