First Line Fridays

I have read several books by Carolyn Miller, and each has been so good!  Therefore, I cannot wait to read this next text in her Regency Brides series.  I'm sure many of you have this novel on your Amazon wish list.  :)

I hope everyone is having a lovely summer.  It is so strange to realize that today is the last First Line Friday of July.  Where did the summer go?  Thankfully, we still have a couple more months of warm weather--even if back to school starts next week.  Have a wonderful day and happy reading!

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

  Miss Serena's Secret
by Carolyn Miller

And the first line is...

Bath, Somerset
June 1817

"Warm summer sun lit the scene before her: a golden-yellow oak table boasting a squat blue vase with an arrangement of ferns and pink roses.  The tension forever lining Serena Winthrop's heart eased a fraction, as if in obedience to the florist's intention."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

  1. Happy Friday!😊

My first line comes from The Mending by Susan Lantz Simpson……..

She sensed someone had entered the room, even though she’d been dozing and hadn’t heard the whoosh of the door opening or the squeak of athletic shoes on the tile floor. Her eyes felt glued shut.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚

  2. Today I shared the first couple of lines from Fiona Davis' upcoming book "The Masterpiece" on my blog. But as I'm only about 25% into the book, let me share the first few lines of the chapter I'm currently reading.

"Clara had seen Levon only twice since he'd taken her class five days earlier: once in a crowded hallway, where he'd given her a salute as he brushed by, and another time on the concourse of the terminal, where she was certain he'd spotted her but pretended not to.
His puerile behavior annoyed her. She had no way of knowing if he'd upheld his end of the bet and insisted that Mr. Lorette keep her on."

I hope you enjoy that. Happy weekend and enjoying your reading! :D

  3. Happy Friday! My first line is from Dancing in the Rain by Eileen Rife and Jennifer Slattery:

“The letter was probably one more rejection Loni could add to all the others crumpled in her trash.”

  4. This one is showing up a lot today. I need to check it out! Here's the first line from a book on my TBR shelf, Justice Buried by Patricia Bradley -- It wasn't too hot for 10:00 P.M. in the middle of May unless you were about to climb over the ledge of a fourteen-story building in downtown Memphis.

    Happy Friday!

  5. Happy Friday! Over on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright. Here I'll share the first line from Chapter 28 of the same book:
"Dusk had settled over Gossamer Pond. The mist rolled off its surface, making the mossy green algae glow in the moonlight."
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Today on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from Cara Putman's novel A Promise Forged. Here I will share the first line from the novel I just started reading, Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar.

"The first time I climbed through a window and crept about secretly through a house, the moon sat high in the sky and I was running away from home."

Hope you have a great weekend! 😀

  7. Wow! Kids are already returning to school next week? That's awful! Not here in Michigan. I believe they start in September or end of August.

I do have this book on my TBR list. Love this author. On my blog, I'm sharing the first line from Secrets & Charades by Cindy Ervin Huff. Since I'm still reading the book, I will share the first two lines from chapter 8 here. "Jake finished hitching the wagon as the sun rose over the horizon. When he peered in the door of the soddie, Evangeline stood before him trying to press the wrinkles out of her green dress with her hands." Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Love these lines--I'm guessing the setting is the west and prairie life? It reminds me of Love Comes Softly or Little House on the Prairie, which are some of my favorite books. :) Happy reading Anneliese!

  8. My First line is from The Best of Intentions by Susan Anne Mason:

    May 1919
Grace Abernathy stood at the rail of the S S Olympic, staring out over the calm expanse of the sea as the last trace of sunlight disappeared over the horizon.

Just finished Miss Serena. Writing my review now.

  9. Happy Friday! I'm sharing from a different book on my blog today, but my current lunchtime read is the second Lady Alkmene Cozy Mystery, Diamonds of Death by Vivian Conroy. Here are the first lines:

"It was madness to do this on a night with a full moon. But then you had to be a little mad to do this work to begin with."

  10. This book it quite popular today!
The book I shared on my blog today is A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano but it's also the book I'm currently reading so I'll share the first line from chapter 3 here: "Squinting into the fog made orange by the rising sun, I strode through the sprawling vineyard in a nightdress and my tattered old garden cloak and pondered the odd whispers of my servant." Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time! :)
