First Line Fridays

Welcome to another week of First Line Fridays!!  I have some exciting news this week too!  I will still be posting my first line here on my blog, but going forward, First Line Fridays will be hosted by Hoarding Books, which will give each of you a chance to join in on the fun!  After reading my first line below, head over to the Hoarding Books website to see who else is participating.  Once you are there, please feel free to add your name and first line to the list.  Happy reading!

Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Today I am going to post a line from:

Jane Austen at Home: A Biography
by Lucy Worsley

And the first line is...

'The rector of a parish has much to do...
his parish duties, and the care
and improvement of his dwelling.'
                    ~Jane Austen~

"To generations of Austen worshippers,  the site of Steventon Rectory is hallowed ground.  They are often to be found at the side of the lane, silent and thoughtful, peering through the hedge into the Hampshire field where it stood.  This is the place where she spent twenty-five years and wrote three novels.  This is where it all began."

Happy Friday and happy reading!

Let me know your first line in the comments & then head over to Hoarding Books  to see who else is participating!

I'm sharing about "Witness Protection" by Carol Kinsey on the blog today, but I'm going to share the first line from the book I'm currently reading here.

    1. Me too--I love Jane Austen! The author of this book is in some wonderful British documentaries as well. If you love British history, such as learning more about the royals or literature, I highly recommend checking them out. Happy Saturday! :)

  3. That sounds like a neat read!

My first line from "The Colors of Christmas" (Olivia Newport) which I need to read this weekend: "They rode in silence, the murmur of Alex's expensive late-model white SUV lulling Astrid into drowsiness."

  4. I've joined the FLF fun and featured a book on my blog, but I will feature a different one here: After A Fashion by Jen Turano. I haven't started it yet, but it's next on my list of books to read. "Miss Peabody, I do so hate to interrupt your work, but an urgent message has just arrived that requires immediate attention."

  5. I'm sharing the first line from An Inconvenient Beauty on my blog today but the first line I'll share here is from Melanie D. Snitker's Fall Into Romance. "A blurry mass of fur raced past Brent toward the main building of the Finding Forever Animal Rescue."

  7. I heart Lucy Worsley! Jane Austen, not so much. Still, Lucy is a great writer and I would probably enjoy this anyway.

  9. This book sounds fascinating. I love reading informative books on Austen and other female authors around this time period. I will have to check this book out!

I’m currently reading An Inconvenient Beauty by Kristi Ann Hunter, and that’s the book I’m doing on my FLF post today, so here I will post the first line from the novel I’m reading next. The next book on my schedule is Rancher to the Rescue by Barbara Phinney.

    Proud Bend, Colorado, April, 1883

“Did I read that right?” Clare Walsh peered up from her chair at the Recording Office in Proud Bend, Colorado. She blinked rapidly. “My parents are gone?”
