First Line Fridays

Happy Friday!  And I guess I should also say happy March!  March has always been one of my favorite months. In many ways, it can be a surprising sort of month, because you do not know what the weather will be like.  Spring sunshine may come at the beginning, but then a cold blizzard hits the area during the middle days of the month.  Mostly though, I love March, because it is my birthday month.  :)

Some people dread their birthday.  They do not want to think about getting older.  However, let me put a different spin on this for you.  I look at getting older as the opportunity to grow and learn about new things.  The wonderful grace of the Lord hits me on that day, because He has blessed me with another year.  Going forward, I get excited about all of the new people I will meet...like all of you--my lovely blogger friends...and I get excited about all of the endeavors the Lord has for me--like writing my book.

Another example would be the alumni luncheon I attended today for Columbus State University.  It was lovely to meet some new faces, and to be able to talk to them about my alma mater.  For me, getting older is a blessing.  Maybe you can think about your years this way too.  :)

This week, I am looking at Suzanne Fisher's book, Anna's Crossing.  I read and reviewed the second book in the series, The Newcomer, so I am interested to see where the characters came from before they stepped out onto a new land.  As always, please be sure to check out the book lines from these other amazing bloggers too:

Today I am going to post a line from:

Anna's Crossing
by Suzanne Woods Fisher

And the fist line is...

April 15th, 1737

"It's a hard crossing, they'd been warned.  Eight weeks in a wooden tub with no guarantee they'd ever get there."

Happy reading and happy Friday!

  1. Anna's Crossing sounds really good!! My first line is: “Preston Tyler lowered his feet from the deck railing & leaned forward as his gaze followed the Jeep pulling up next to the Fontaines’ cabin across the lake.” From Presumed Dead by Angela Ruth Strong

    1. What a spooky line! It's been awhile since I have read the Love Inspired Suspense books, but I love reading the Love Inspired Historical books. :)

  2. That sounds very interesting! I haven't read too many Amish fiction novels (a few by Beverly Lewis). You sound like me...reading books out of order. ;) It drives my sister crazy. :D

    1. I have a few books by Beverly Lewis, but I haven't had a chance to read them yet. However, I have seen a few of her films...films based on her books...via the Hallmark channel. :)

  3. I am not so brave, I don't think. I don't know if that kind of lack of promise of surviving suits me. Though I suppose it would depend on if the thing I was trying to escape was scarier than the idea of not surviving the voyage away from it.

    1. I know...I cannot even begin to imagine how scary it must have been for people to leave their home, travel on a boat across the Atlantic, and then begin a new life in an unknown land.

  4. Boy, I really admire those who braved an early crossing of the Atlantic! What a terrifying endeavor!

    1. Me too! Especially considering how many days they were cooped up on a ship.
